Soprano Lauren Mouney Gisclair has performed professionally since the age of 14. She holds a Master of Music in Voice Performance and Pedagogy at Penn State University where she received a full tuition scholarship and graduate assistantship. In spring 2008, Lauren was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Honor Society and was also a winner in the Penn State Graduate Exhibition Performance.
At Penn State, she took on the role Rosalinde in School of Music and School of Theatre’s production of Die Fledermaus and sang the role of the Security Officer in Milton Grainger’s The Proposal and as Sophie in scenes from Der Rosenkavalier.
In spring 2007, Lauren had the privilege to perform the role of Chicken Little in Trinkley and Charnesky’s children’s opera Chicken Little. Ms. Mouney also appeared as Nancy in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring with Penn State Opera Theatre and Penn State Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Gerardo Edelstein.
A National Collegiate Scholar, High Scholastic Achievement recipient, Music Dean’s Award recipient, and graduate of Indiana University, Mrs. Gisclair earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance, cum laude. During her studies at Indiana, she sang the roles of Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Indiana University Opera and Hebe (H.M.S Pinafore) with Bloomington Music Works. In opera workshops, she sang the roles of Maria (West Side Story), Lisette (La Rodine), and Nella (Gianni Schicchi).
Lauren has sung in various opera and musical theatre productions, including the New Orleans Opera Chorus, Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre, and Jefferson Performing Arts Society. She continues to perform in the New Orleans area in weddings, recitals, church services, and concerts.
In addition to her performing career, Mrs. Gisclair devoted time in extensive research on the songs of Edvard Grieg, studying Norwegian with diction coach and Grieg scholar, Sandra Jarrett. This past November she presented a Master’s lecture recital entitled “Exposing American Singer’s to the Songs of Edvard Grieg.”
As an educator, Lauren has instructed students of all ages teaching fine arts and musical theatre to juniors and seniors at Mount Carmel Academy High School in New Orleans, LA and Kindermusik to children ages 2-5 in Tallahassee, FL. She has taught voice to high school and college students, some of whom she prepared for undergraduate music program auditions. At Penn State University, Mrs. Gisclair taught voice both in the classroom and private studio.
